Interview Process

Telephone Interview Do's and Dont's
All companies take due diligence to make sure that they pre screen the candidate to make sure that they are not wasting money or time bringing in candidates to interview, by having preliminary interviews to see if the candidate should be brought in. Thus Telephone Interview have become a very important phase in the recruitment process.

  1. Keep a Copy of your CV handy - Remember the interviewer has your cv handy, thus you too need to keep the exact submitted format handy, so if some specific instance is being asked from your CV then you can take answer more accurately.
  2. Make sure that you are in a quiet area - It is very distracting for a interviewer to conduct a phone interview with someone who has a lot of background noise. Choose a location that is quiet but also allows you to speak loud enough for a phone interview.
  3. Speak Slowly - Speaking slowly and clearly will help to put across the Idea Clearly. Incase it is an international call then keep the voice lag time in mind while speaking. Also since you have a communication barrier (the phone) present in your interview, it will be imperative that you speak clearly, enunciate your words, and speak up. You will have to sell yourself and seem as professional as possible, but if you are mumbling or speaking too low, your interviewer may question your communication skills.
  4. Be attentive - Make sure that all distractions are eliminated during your phone interview. The only thing that you should have in front of you is a pen & pad of paper (to take notes), a copy of your resume, the job description, company information, and a list of questions that you have for the interviewer.
  5. Be polite - Do not cut off your interviewer, do not chew gum or eat food, and do not cough or sneeze into the phone.
  6. Be to the Point - One of the biggest mistakes of Telephonic Interview is when candidates start talking on a tangent and they completely forget the question under discussion. This would show a lack of focus.
  7. Mobile Phone Handsets Related Preparations
    a. The Mobile Handset should be sufficiently charged.
    b. Call waiting should be switched off.
